THESEUS SME 2009

Given their speed and agility in expanding into new markets, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the forerunners in many areas of technology. However, these enterprises often lack the time and resources to invest in research and development. Against this backdrop, they can benefit from the “THESEUS SME 2009” funding competition.

“THESEUS SME 2009” gives small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany the opportunity to try out the technologies developed in THESEUS at an early stage and translate them into new products and processes. The goal is to develop new services and business models. By holding the competition, the THESEUS program hopes to encourage top-level research by businesses in the midmarket. The early integration of scientific results into their business operations makes these enterprises more competitive, while also driving emulation and the multiplier effect. The results can also be used more quickly by other enterprises. This promotes further innovation, growth and employment in Germany as a business location.

“THESEUS SME 2009” expands the THESEUS research program by adding 12 application projects selected by an independent jury and incorporating some 30 new partners, most of which are SMEs. The SME initiative is partly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), which provides roughly €10 million in financial support. The SME projects are assigned to the existing application scenarios and collaborate with them.

The topics and participants involved in these 12 projects are as follows:

THESEUS Mittelstand 2009
